 Complaints about my blog

Pit bull dog 2In a recent blog post, I posed this question: With so many wonderful dog breeds, why would anyone get a pit bull?

I received lots of emails about that one.

One said that she was going to send an email to a bunch of dog shelters, etc. and tell them to boycott my granite pet memorial business.

These memorials have a photo of the pet laser engraved into granite.  They help people with the grieving process.

Stereotyping pit bull dogs

Some of them accused me of stereotyping pit bulls.  Think of the logic behind that one.  They were implying that stereotyping is always wrong.

What about a cop who pulls over a drunk driver?  Not all drunk drivers cause accidents.  Yet our legal system thinks it is okay to stereotype drunk drivers and punish them.  They may be sent to jail or fined because of the stereotyping of drunk drivers.

Severely mauled by pit bull dogs

A Time Magazine web post called The Problem with Pit Bulls has some interesting statistics.

♦ Pit bulls make up 6% of the dog population.
♦ Pit bulls are responsible for 68% of dog attacks.
♦ Pit bulls are responsible for  52% of dog-related deaths since 1982.

Pit bulls were bred to be violent.

Some of the complainers emailed me and said that pit bulls would not be violent if they were brought up properly.  That’s bad logic.  Every month over 33,000 Americans make a Google search for this phrase: pitbull puppies for sale.  It is ridiculous to assume that all of the people who buy pit bull puppies will know exactly how to raise a pit bull properly.

The owner of the pit bulls was charged with charge endangerment.  What will be his defence?  That the court is stereotyping his dogs?

Pit Bull story in Time

pit cull attacks girl textA Time Magazine website called The Problem with Pit Bulls has some interesting statistics.

♦ Pit bulls make up 6% of the dog population.
♦ Pit bulls are responsible for 68% of dog attacks.

Those statistics were compiled by Merritt Clifton, editor of Animals 24-7.

That editor has been twice attacked by dogs (one pit bull). He has been logging fatal and disfiguring attacks for 32 years. In that time frame there has never been a year when pit bulls have accounted for less than half of all attacks. A CDC report confirms that pit bulls are responsible for more deaths than any other breed.
