pit bullNeighbor’s pit bull kills dog in Alice Murray’s yard

A pit bull dog came into Alice Murray’s yard and killed another dog while she watched.  The dogs have come into her yard a number of times.  She called police and animal control.  They have not helped much.

Ms. Murray is at her wit’s end.  She is really afraid for her safety and for the safety of the toddlers in her neighbourhood.  She has lived in the house for 47 years and feels like she has the right to safety.

So, she called Houston’s ABC 13 television station for help.  They came and then broadcasted a news story about the event.  While they were there, the police came again.  They cited the pit bull owner for not having a city license and for not having them vaccinated.

But, the pit bulls are still there.

It will be interesting to see how this story plays out.

Pit Bull story in Time

pit cull attacks girl textA Time Magazine website called The Problem with Pit Bulls has some interesting statistics.

♦ Pit bulls make up 6% of the dog population.
♦ Pit bulls are responsible for 68% of dog attacks.
♦ Pit bulls are responsible for  52% of dog-related deaths since 1982.

Those statistics were compiled by Merritt Clifton, editor of Animals 24-7.

That editor has been twice attacked by dogs (one pit bull).  He has been logging fatal and disfiguring attacks for 32 years.  In that time frame there has never been a year when pit bulls have accounted for less than half of all attacks. A CDC report confirms that pit bulls are responsible for more deaths than any other breed.
